Originally known as Dark Creek, Jesmond sits on land  about half a mile north west of Lambton.   Jesmond is the heart of Newcastle University. Each year the area is home to hundreds of students from both regional Australia and International. Since the growth of the intake of International Students at the Newcastle University the area has become a thriving suburb of Newcastle.

Jesmond is a well-established inner city suburb approximately 10 kilometres from Newcastle Central Business District. Jesmond has a good shopping centre named Stockland Mall, an abundance of open space and parks, Bowling Clubs, Jesmond Park and rose gardens, Post Office, Schools and public transport.

Birmingham Gardens is a suburb North West of Jesmond. It has become a popular suburb due to the proximity to the Newcastle University Campus and Stockland Shopping centre. The suburb of Birmingham Gardens offers both the family lifestyle as well as the student lifestyle with easy access to public transport.
